Favourite Photoshoot Locations in Banská Bystrica
Where we shoot and why. Spots that work for portraits, couples and families.

Banská Bystrica and its surroundings are a joy to shoot in. There's a historic centre, old lanes, parks and wild nature right on the doorstep. Here are a few of our favourite spots and what they're best for.
Where we've shot
A few places we've travelled to for a good shot. Click a pin or a place in the list and the map takes you there.
The historic centre and SNP Square
The heart of the city with its clock tower, cobbles and old facades. Great for elegant portraits, couples and urban shoots. It's most beautiful early in the morning, before the crowds.
The square is lined with burgher houses with Renaissance features and the Barbican by the Parish Church. In summer we prefer mornings before seven, in winter the early evening once the facades light up.
Old lanes and Uhlisko
Corners, gateways and the textures of old walls give photos character. We've shot several series here, it works for bolder, urban frames.
Uhlisko is a former craftsmen's quarter below the town walls, narrow steps and houses stacked above each other, good for street photography.

Parks and greenery
City parks and tree-lined avenues are ideal for soft, natural shoots, especially for families and couples. Spring and autumn bring the nicest colours.
Sad SNP park and Parkova street offer old trees and quiet paths, good for photographing kids and pets. The nicest colours come in May and autumn.
The Hron river and views of the surrounding hills
The Hron flows through the city a short walk from the centre, its riverbank with bridges and willows gives a calm the lanes can't match. For a view over the city, try Laskomer, Pansky diel or the Calvary.
Nature around the city
Urpin hill, the surrounding forests and meadows are a stone's throw from the centre yet feel like another world. Great for romantic, low-key and timeless frames with no distractions.
Urpin is the closest patch of nature to the centre, a few minutes' walk puts you among trees with the city below. Tracks towards Malachov offer deeper woods for a soft bokeh.
A trip further afield for the shot
When we have more time, we love to travel. Spania Dolina, Donovaly, the Harmanec valley or Strbske pleso in the High Tatras. For an exceptional backdrop it's worth going further.
Spania Dolina with its miners' cottages suits rustic motifs, Harmanec suits adventurous couples, Donovaly bring snow in winter and colourful meadows in summer.
And when the weather won't play along
Our studio in Banska Bystrica is always here. Full control of the light, a clean background and warmth, whatever it's doing outside.
How to choose a location for your style of shoot
The right location depends on the mood you want. Nature or a view over the city suit romantic shots, old lanes suit an urban style, parks suit families. Spring and autumn bring the richest colours, winter shines on the lookouts.
