An Engagement Shoot: Tips for Couples
Just got engaged? An engagement shoot is a beautiful way to capture the joy.

Just said yes? Congratulations. An engagement shoot is a beautiful way to capture that fresh joy before the wedding planning takes over.
Why an engagement shoot
It captures the emotion that's strongest right now. You'll also use the photos for an engagement announcement, a save the date or a wedding website.
This time right after getting engaged never comes back, your hands might still be a little shaky and the joy is completely genuine. An engagement shoot is also a great chance to get comfortable working with your photographer before the big day, you'll see how we work and what makes you comfortable in front of the camera.

When and where to shoot
Pick a season and a place that suits you. A location with a story works wonderfully, where the question was asked, a favourite cafe or nature outside the city.
Instead of a spot that just looks good on Instagram, pick a location with real meaning: the park from your first date, the apartment where the question was popped, or the city where you met. That kind of story lasts in your memory for years and gives the photos a personal touch.
Light and timing
The softest light usually falls shortly after sunrise or in the hour or two before sunset, photographers call it golden hour, with gentle shadows and warm colours. When picking a date, plan a backup location for bad weather too, an overcast sky just spreads the light evenly and suits skin tones just as well.
How to relax as a couple
No need to pose. Walk, hug, laugh and just be together. We guide you, and the loveliest shots happen between poses.
If you feel awkward in front of the camera, you're not alone. It helps to focus on each other instead of the lens: talk, remind each other of a shared memory, go for a walk and let the photographer follow from a distance. A couple of deep breaths before the first shot loosens up your shoulders and your face.
Capturing natural emotion and interaction
The most honest photos come from movement, not from standing still. Try whispering something to one another, dancing without music or simply looking at each other and smiling. Our job is to set up situations where these moments happen on their own, for example a simple prompt like walk slowly and don't say anything.
Outfits for a couple
Coordinate your colours and style, but don't dress identically. The goal is harmony. And don't forget the ring, a detail that belongs in engagement photos.
Stick to one colour palette, for example earthy tones or the classic combination of white, beige and denim, and avoid bold logos. Choose comfortable shoes and bring an extra layer, such as a jacket, in case the evening turns cool or you want to change up the look partway through.

When's the best time for an engagement shoot?
Ideally as soon as possible after getting engaged, while the joy is still fresh. Timing wise, golden hour in the morning or evening works best.

Best somewhere with a shared story, the park from your first date, where you got engaged or a favourite cafe. It works better than any generic backdrop.
